Winter run, feeling alive!

I’m pretty happy about my pace in the 10k given that I haven’t done any meaningful running in about a year. I’m awkward AF with hand-eye coordination, so the only balls I like to play with are attached to bodies 😉 😈 But running I can do. At expert levels, running takes a lot of training and dedication, but for pure recreation, I enjoy it as an exercise in determination. One foot in front of the other.

It’s the same reason I knew I could raise a child as a solo parent even though I was unemployed and homeless when I decided to conceive. It’s also why I’ve known we can keep Cliff Media alive even in a political climate that doesn’t make it easy to produce adult media or be loud and proud as queer, trans, Black and brown, and people with disabilities. But we’re doing it, because why? Because we decide to. Because we’re determined together.

I think most of life is like that. If you’ve got dreams that inspire you, jump on them. It’s GOING to be hard, and the speed bumps that arise are less painful if you stay ready and expect the unexpected. You don’t have to conquer the whole thing at once. It doesn’t matter how fast you go, just keep it moving one day at a time. Just don’t quit, that’s it. And WHEN (not if) it gets hard, know that you’re not alone. Be like the geese that fly in formation to make the winds easier. Find your flock. If you share your dreams and goals, there are people around you who can help.

P.S. I love that my race receipt lists me as Vanessa Cliff, what I consider my REAL name because it’s the identity in which I feel most free. We (sex workers, trans folks and more) may have to navigate government documents with legal names/ “dead names” sometimes, but WE, not the government, get to define ourselves in the rest of our lives.

Aaaand now – back home, back to work! 😅
